The Sadao Hasegawa（1945－1999）Born in The Tohoku region of Japan in 1945, Hasegawa travelled widely in India and Asia in his twenties and it was here that he began his self-taught art education. In 1973, in the epicenter of Japanese pop-culture, Hasegawa opened his exhibition “The Alchemy of Sadao Hasegawa – A Meditation for 1973” in Seibu Department Store’s teen department. Moving beyond any specific genre, Hasegawa exhibited works in oils, collage, pencil and even sculpture.In 1990 the English publisher G.M.P released SADAO HASEGAW: Paintings and Drawings, a collection of the artist’s works which in turn lead to a number of exhibition invitations from around the world.
