You want advice on what to stay away from? Stay away from Nexus.
Yeah, you might be thinking 'But I'm new and Nexus would be a great start for me' but then you never think about learning sound design, and when you do you realize that Nexus is sooo much easier than creating your own sounds, and you never do. After a while you've spent all of your money on new Nexus presets because you got tired of the old ones, and have no more money to pay your electricity bill. You're on your last couple of hours left on your laptop before your battery dies, but you don't notice. You're too busy trying to find 'Sweet electro Nexus presets vol. Autoit clashbot 7.3 4. 5 free download' to notice. Then your laptop dies.Your whole career on that laptop, and you have no more battery left in it.

So you resort to burglary. First you snatch just a couple of candy bars from your local gas station. Then you move onto WalMart. Then Fred Meyers, then you start thinking about robbing a local bank. You're nervous, but you give in, knowing that your producing career is on the line.

You kiss your picture of Avicii and give in to the pressure. You rob the bank, you run away with 5,880$ all in that nice paper bag you snuck from that old guy downtown. While you're running away you think about your life, and what you just did. That paper bag was that old man's life. He deserves it so much more than I do. What am I even doing? Stealing paper bags from old men? I'm so much better than that and I should know better.
But I can't give it back now, I've already taken candy from the gas station he sits. Well, I guess the only thing I can do now is kill myself. And then, after a moment of serendipity and silence, you pull the trigger of your glock that you had taken from the pawn shop, and ended the hopeless life that was ', user of Nexus presets'.That's what will happen if you use Nexus. Just go and use harmor or sylenth and make yourself learn a little sound design. It isn't hard, and it gets quite fun once you know what you're doing. Have fun, and I wish you luck!. Cool story bro. Im not exactly looking for 'my first vst!'
I've been making music almost 14 years now and I'd like to think I've become quite proficient at sound design. My workflow generally starts with either sound design or notes and arrangement. When I start with arrangement its def nice to have good presets so I can get my ideas out without getting hung up on trying to make a sound or get a shitty preset to work for the time being.

Now after having spent multiple thousands of dollars on studio equipment, controllers, and various instruments I'm a little more keen on what I want out of a purchase. If I bought it, like I said, it would be nice to know which ones are worth checking out so I don't waste my money. But with a review like this its hard to justify looking into Nexus any further. Couple holes in your story tho A) Im not a thief, I don't pirate software just as I wouldn't rob a bank. B) I'd never be caught dead with a glock, hate em.
And C) I live in Texas, I have plenty of guns, I don't need to go to a pawn shop for one.
